MEETING NOTES

REGULAR MEETING:   September 1, 2026

Our meeting opened with a welcome to the members present, both in person and online. Welcome 2 prospective members:  Grace Doucet and Melanie Poole.  Great to see Desmond from Jamaica joining us again.

We continued with the singing of O Canada and the Treaty 6 recognition.

Announcements/Updates:

1. Opportunities to serve

  • Step & Stride Parkinson’s Association – Sunday Sept 20

Ist email: asked for tables and chairs – delivered, set-up, taken down, returned

I replied 22 tables and 60 chairs

I sourced these from Augustana

Then learned – CRE would supply them

Still asked us to deliver, set-up, take down, & return

Need to pick up Saturday Sept 19

Deliver, set-up and take down Sunday Sept 20

Return to CRE Monday morning

So far:

Rob Rolf has offered his truck and trailer for transport – many thanks

I’ve contacted Erin Mitchell asking for help from the cadets

An officer needs to accompany them.

She’ll get back to me.

  • After a year of valuable service, Lou Henderson is resigning part of the duties she has undertaken. Currently she updates the Meeting Program schedules and completes the Meeting Support Tasks. She would like to hand over the Meeting Support Tasks to a new volunteer. These include arranging the tasks seen on the sign-up sheet that we’re circulating. Please see me or Kevin if you are willing to volunteer for this.
  • The Love Local Camrose Big Block Party – Sept 12 - We are requesting volunteers to spend some time in our booth to share Rotary with the community. We will showcase Rotary’s work with Days for Girls, Soles or Souls, Rotary Youth Exchange and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The event runs from 10AM to 5PM and suggested shifts are as follows with 2 people required for each time:
    • 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00pm, 2:00-4:00 and 4:00-5:00. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Kim at kboyco@gmail.com
  • Rotary Camrose Pedal Pub Fundraiser - Tickets are almost totally sold out. A few left for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. We will need a few people to help check-in the riders and sell raffle tickets on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Message Lisa Rohr if you have a couple of hours to contribute: LRohr@telus.net. Our biggest need is for corporate sponsors. Looking for 9 businesses or individuals to contribute $500 cash to cover the cost of the bike rental. Please reach out to your contacts and see if you can find one or two that would support this Rotary event. Sponsor recognition before, during and after the event.
  • Rotary Youth Exchange update - Olivia M has started a Camrose Rotary Youth Exchange Instagram account, please follow it at d5370_youthexchange!. A parent-student meeting is set for Sept 17.  Lisa Rohr will be the Inbound Counsellor and Jackie Millington is the Outbound Counsellor.  Thanks for stepping up ladies!
  • Canada Flag Delivery and Pick Up is on Wednesday Sept 2 and Sept 9. Contact Jenn Stone if you can assist:  jstonecamroserotary@gmail.com
  • Community Registration Night Sept 10.  Rotary has 2 tables booked to feature Days for Girls, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and other Rotary projects. Shirley B is leading this event and has enough workers.

2.   Responses to President Tim’s survey:  The survey was originally sent out to all members in June.  Few responses so far.  Lou will re-send the survey – please send your responses to Tim asap.

  • Jenn S – milestone of 100 blood donations achieved!  Well done Jenn!
  • Lisa R – welcomed a new granddaughter on June 2
  • Shirley R – fantastic trip to Scotland and Faroe Islands with Ken; celebrated granddaughter’s birthday; Ken’s 85th birthday coming up; son’s wedding on Sept 18; trip to Fredericton in October
  • Kevin S – hosted a celebration of life for Sheila’s father on August long week-end. Over 40 family members came to their home.
  • Larry J - happy for all the socials we had in the summer hosted by The Rolfs, Johnsons. Parkers and Boycos
  • Patrice J – she and Larry took 2 granddaughters on an Alaska cruise.  Discovered that hiding and finding small rubber ducks is a “thing” on cruise ships.
  • Rob R - welcomed a new granddaughter in early July; has a bumper crop of garlic that he is willing to share
  • Tim P – hosted 3 Chinese students who were interns at UA Augustana over the summer; will be hosting an Associate Professor and a PHD Scholar in the coming months
  • Shirley B – wonderful bus trip to Yukon and Alaska, highlight was the Road to the Top of the World; the rest of the roads were not so spectacular
  • Lou H – wonderful summer full of activities with family and friends; lots of raspberries were picked and shared

Next meeting – next Tuesday, Sept 8 at 11:45am. Zoom will start at 12:15.

Speaker will be Ron Grue, telling us about his project in Africa
